Government has fired State House press secretary Fred Ndala and a special aide to the First Lady Phillomina Kasambwe in less than six months of their employment.

But director general of State residences Peter Mukhito said in an interview yesterday that the two have been redeployed to other duties.

Mukhito said he was not certain of where Ndala was heading to, but disclosed that Kasambwe’s next assignment is at Airport Development Limited (ADL).

Mukhito described the move as normal redeployments when asked if there were reasons for the sackings.

Ndala declined to comment when asked yesterday, but sources close to the matter said he was verbally told on Monday to stop working.

His deputy, Timpuza Mwansambo, is now acting State House press secretary.

Ndala, a journalist by profession, resigned as an editor at Blantyre Newspapers Limited’s (BNL) flag carrier Malawi News to take up the offer at the State House after Peter Mutharika won the May 2014 presidential race.

Kasambwe, who once served Chiradzulu Central as a Member of Parliament, was the First Lady’s special assistant.

The State House recently moved some staffers in the name of “redeployments” but they obtained an injunction which the State House defied by proceeding with the action.
